Abstract
This Extended Partnership (PE) project is an opportunity on the topic of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, with epidemic/pandemic potential, offered by the National Reprise and Resilience Program. Within this wide and interdisciplinary project, spoke 5 aim is on New therapeutic approaches. The starting point is the needing of new drugs and/or drug delivery systems being more effective against new viral and bacterial infections, also overcoming MDR (Microbial Drug resistance). The research group task is to design and formulate nanosized drug delivery systems through two approaches: i) encapsulation of already known anti-infective drugs (such as antibiotics) into electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds for tissue regeneration, to provide local therapy tools and reduce MDR; ii) development of polymer nanoparticles and/or liposomes for active targeted delivery of newly synthesized active compounds that will be provided by the other research units involved in the project.
